hi im kyle this is my blog, im doing my work experience here at connexions and im going to tell u how im getting on. im going to be working with all the teams, in the head office and down in the connexion centre.

ill be posting on the blog each day bout what iv been learning about what connexions do  and how they help young people.

these are how my days have panned out . . . .

monday

on my first day I came in absolutely brickin it and signed in at the reception were I waited for sian to come and give me my induction. when sian came she took me up to here office and told me abit about personnel and about what connexions is.

next thing I did was go down into the connexions centre and met yvonne, she talked me through what connexions does for young people who come in for info. she helped me work on a CV, and I went on the comp to do a questionnaire on finding out what jobs matched up with my interests.

the last thing I did that morning was work with the marketing team (mark, niall) on helping to create a leaflet on one of their programmes, it was interesting to find out how much thought goes into a leaflet. and the next thing I did with the marketing team was help to create this blog including the graphics at the top of the page.

at the end of the day I went down to reception were I found out a bit about what goes on tbh. then came upstairs and helped to frank the post which wasn’t the most fun job but it has to be done and is important to connexions to keep in contact with their clients.

that was my fist day finished. . . .

tuesday

on tuesday I came in feelin more confident knowing that I new the people, this is what went on in the day . . .

the first thing I did is go to the finance office were I found out about the money connexions spend and how they make sure that their covering their costs, there was alot of spread sheets and data-bases which tbh looked very confusing.

then I went to business intelligence were I  met with dave and we talked about NEET’s ( which means not in education, employment or training), and how connexions find out about what teenagers go to do after they leave school.

and then n the after noon me and shaun went up to britannia stadium and got to see what connexions do to help NEET’s. when we got there, there was a group of 16-19 yr olds who were all workin on activities to help build their confidence to help them get ready to get  job or to stay in learning. after they done this they got to go to the gym which was also enjoyable for me cus this is one of my hobby’s.

tomorrow im comin in later at about lunch-time because iv got to work later, find out what I gota do tomorrow. . .

wednesday

today iv had a nice lie in and came in at lunch time . . .

all day I worked with les and george in a youth development consultation, we worked with young people to find out what they thought about a poster and was made by mark up in marketing, after this the young people were working on other consultations but I left at seven Oclock and they all stayed till nine. before I went to the consultation I needed to help les and george with the planning of the activities that was goin to happen in the consultation, we had to plan out some cards that had situations on them that young people might find them selfs in, the group had to talk about these and work out how to help that young person t get back into learning or work.

at about six all the young people arrived and they had tea before they started the consultation, there was about ten of them but they all had their differences, tbh I think les and george picked different kinds of people to make more of a fair debate.

today was different workin with young people and it was more of an experience. . .

thursday

the first thing I did this morning was sit at reception and find out about what is involved in being a receptionist because last time I didn’t have enough time at reception to find out a lot, I looked at all the manuals such as the fire and safety manual and also helped to update the reception manual with some new guide lines.

after that I had assistant chief executive for money and finance (phil), I went into his office and saw the posters and pictures on the walls of mountains and we talked about mountains and it bein his hobby, we also talked about his role as assistant chief executive of finance and what the role involves.

at the end of the day I had lee carter in ICT, we did allsorts of interesting stuff such as building PC’s by un-installing linux and installing windows xp, he was the  showin me these smart phones they were sound. it was a really hot day so we had to make sure the servers were kept cool because they control over 600 computers, then he showed me him and gregs little side line business runin the connexions tuk shop. and then he told me bout the high security soft ware on the system which makes sure all the young peoples information completely safe, the system is also used by the F.B.I and the military and if a hacker was tryin to get it would make the equipment completely useless.

this has been a pretty cool day tbh, see what I do tomorrow. . . .

friday

right its my last day and im goin to tell u whats gone on. . .

I met up with karen who runs activ8 which helps NEET’s (if u have forgotten what a NEET is already then go bck to Tuesday) the first place we went was indigo training were is a plce young people go to learn hands on skill’s which is a good place if u are in to getin your hands dirty. they teach a lot of skill’s like carpentry , brick work, painting, pluming and mechanics, the next place we went was people-serve which is another training provider who work more with people that have social and emotional issues they help people build their confidence and learn skill’s they will need in the big wide world.

iv got a couple more things lined up this-afternoon and then that’s me done for my work experience.

soooooooo this is me the end of my week its been filled with a lot of fun and not so fun task’s but its been interesting fndin out exactly what connexions does and that’s its not just about findin jobs and that it is a lot bigger than that, before this week I didn’t no about all the different services that connexion’s give young people and its all kept completely confidential, if u ever have a problem or iv u just need to talk to someone u can trust come straight in and talk (no need to book) id recommend this as a work experience placement. . . . .

thank you for reading my blog . . . . .  ceya in bit
