Apprenticeships

Most Apprentices are employed and get a wage. The law says that all employed apprentices must receive a wage of at least £95 per week. Research has found that many employers increase wages as apprentices’ skills develop. The national average take home pay for employed apprentices is around £170 a week.

Apprentices who have started their training at college, but haven’t yet found an employer – known as ‘Programme Led Apprenticeships’ – can apply for Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). If you're on a programme led apprenticeship, your parents will also be able to carry on claiming Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits for you - even if you don’t qualify for EMA.

Depending on the type of Apprenticeship, you may also be able to get funding to help with travel or childcare costs.

You can find out more about Apprenticeships in the Work and Training section of this website or visit www.apprenticeships.org.uk. Your Connexions Personal Adviser  can also answer any questions you might have and help you to apply for Apprenticeship vacancies.
