Job Seeker's Allowance

Jobseeker's Allowance is the benefit paid to people who are unemployed and looking for work.

Job Seekers Allowance is not normally available to 16 and 17 year olds because they’re guaranteed a place on work-based learning with a training allowance. Find out more about the September Guarantee and what it can do for you.

In certain circumstances, 16 and 17 year olds may be entitled to receive Jobseeker’s Allowance. This includes if you:

  • are forced to live away from your family
  • have a partner and dependent child or
  • are facing severe hardship.

If you’re aged 18 or above and you’re looking for work (or working less than 16 hours a week and on a low income) you may be able entitled to Jobseeker’s Allowance..
