If your son or daughter hasn’t yet decided what job or course they want to do or if they haven’t got the skills, confidence or experience they need to start a job, they might consider the Entry to Employment (e2e) programme.
e2e is tailored to meet individual needs, giving young people the skills and confidence they need to move into employment, education or training. The programme lasts for as long as the young person needs it. Most young people stay on e2e for around 22 weeks – by which time they should be ready to progress into work or college.
As well as working towards a qualification, your son or daughter can try out different work and learning situations to see what suits them.
Young people who are on an e2e programme may be able to recive money in the form of a £30 a week Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). EMA doesn’t affect any other benefits you may claim, you can keep claiming child benefit, tax credits and other types of support while your son or daughter is getting EMA.
If your son or daughter is interested in e2e, they can talk to a Personal Adviser at their local Connexions Centre or visit the Connexions Direct website for further information.
