Young people in education

At certain stages between the ages of 13 and 19 young people need to consider the range of learning options open to them and make some choices about their future.

As a parent or carer, you will be able to help your son or daughter plan their future if you have a good understanding of:

  • how the education system works
  • what your son/daughter’s options are
  • what support is available to both you and your son or daughter during this time.

This section aims to give you a clearer understanding of the education system and the learning options available. You will also find details of useful websites, publications and sources of support that you can refer to for more help.
